George H. Hill, a worker for the Leavenworth Grain Elevator, Walcott Elevator, Missouri Pacific Railroad and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City Hospital. George had been battling several illnesses over the years. He was 88. George was born May 27, 1934, in Leavenworth, Kan., the son of Howard and Ruth (Elwood) Hill. George is preceded in death by various relatives and family members. George and his only sibling Gertrude were raised by Ruth (Elwood) Hill Kune.
Lacking a high school diploma, he was able to do anything with his hands. George was a member of Fortress of Faith Christian Fellowship and a helper/supporter of God’s Open Closet. He was a strong believer in God, faith, love of family and hard work. George leaves behind Joan Parks of Leavenworth, a lifelong friend and loving companion. He married Ida (Shawanibin) Flint Sprenkle Hill on May 12, 2001, in Kansas five months before her passing. He married Margaret R. Hill on June 14, 1952, in Atchison and were married 42 years before her passing. Together they raised five daughters and one son: Robin Ivison, Wathena, Kan., Kathy (Paul) Gallagher, McLouth, Kan., Mary Ann Sanders, Port Orange, Fla., Diana (Tony) Sheppard, Brunswick, Ga., George (Timothy) Hill, who also preceded him in death. Peggy (Larry) Miller, Independence, Mo.
Other survivors include: 12 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, Kan. on Monday, February 27, 2023. Funeral Service will follow at noon. Service will be conducted by Senior Pastor Howard Jones. Burial will be at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to NorthCare Hospice House located at North Kansas City Hospital or Fortress of Faith Christian Fellowship.
