Alyce M. Porter

Alyce M. Porter, 90, peacefully passed away at Olathe Hospice House Thursday October 8, 2022.

Preceded in death by Raymond A. Porter, her husband of 59 years, and Michael R. Porter, their oldest son. She is survived by daughter Patricia (Van), daughter Toni, son Terry (Tammy), five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, one brother and many nieces and nephews. Alyce was an extremely talented and creative artist throughout her life decorating many storefronts in Leavenworth early in her career. This led to an invitation to work at Fort Leavenworth Army Field Printing Plant as a graphic illustrator where she met her husband. She was an entrepreneur, created a business in ceramics that flourished for over 25 years, Porterhouse Ceramics. Always willing to help the community with her talent, she created and installed the holiday decorations for Trinity Lutheran Church, restored several church statues and painted artwork for Twin Oaks Rehabilitation Center. Her favorite and most enjoyable endeavor came in assisting with the restoration of the 1913 Parker-Carry carousel in the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum by hand painting all the artwork on the canopy. Alyce loved being with her family and friends, traveling, and the occasional visit to the local casino or bingo parlor.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday October 12, 2022, at Davis Funeral Chapel followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. Thursday at Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held following the funeral service at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be made to the McCoy-Porter Scholarship in care of the Frontier Credit Union 690 Eisenhower Road Leavenworth, KS 66048.

Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be left on Alyce’s online guestbook at www.davisfuneralchapelinc.com.
