We must follow the teachings of Christ

To the editor: Side-by-side articles in Saturday’s Leavenworth Times provoked me to create a response based on religion. Anyone who knows me knows that I have been deeply embedded in active church membership my whole life, except for the three years I served in India. My values and views on life, work, ethics, morals and politics all coalesced when I was 13, and haven’t changed much.

How can one person tell another that their truth is invalid?

To the editor: Several days ago, the Leavenworth Times published a citizen’s letter to the editor that carried the headline, “Be ‘woke’ about what’s going on for the good of our country.’ This was in response to another citizen letter talking about “wokeism.” In the recently published letter, the writer surmised that the previous writer failed to conduct even “perfunctory research” and that being “woke” is hurting our country.

Arrest warrant issued in manslaughter case

An arrest warrant has been issued for a Leavenworth man facing a manslaughter charge because he failed to show up for court, according to court records. Timothy Kelzer Smith, who previously was released on bond, was scheduled to appear Friday in Leavenworth County District Court.
