Board discusses traits for new superintendent

Leavenworth Board of Education members met this week to review the results of an online survey and focus groups that were conducted as part of a search for a new superintendent. And board members were asked to select traits they want to see in the person hired to be the school district’s next superintendent.

We can embrace progress without compromising our state’s personality

During my junior and senior years of college, I would spend one night a week with my boyfriend in Maryland. One Sunday of my junior year, I came home to my shared apartment to find some freshly baked brownies on the dining room table. They were cut into very small pieces, so I smiled and was about to happily pick up a few and pop them into my mouth. Thank goodness it finally occurred to me to ask myself exactly why the brownies were so small, and why my rambunctious friends had decided to make brownies on a Saturday night. I saved myself from quite a wild ride by realizing those brownies contained a little something extra – marijuana.
