New Lansing superintendent may be named in March

A new superintendent for the Lansing public schools could be named in March. Lansing Board of Education members reviewed a proposed schedule for their superintendent search on Monday when they met with a consultant from the Kansas Association of School Boards.

Mary Jane Grinter, 85, Lawrence, Kan., passed away Friday January 27, 2023, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. A celebration of life will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.

LAVEDA ANN DORSEY

Laveda Ann Dorsey, 78, Tonganoxie, Kan., passed away Thursday January 26, 2023, at her home. A funeral mass will be 6 p.m. Friday February 3, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Leavenworth County Council on Aging (Meals on wheels).

Carlo “Carl” DePaolis Jr., 94, of Leavenworth, beloved father, grandfather coach and teacher passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023. He was born February 28, 1928, in Freedom, Penn., to Carlo Sr.

Ride a bike to get into and maintain good health

It is not too early to begin thinking about youth bicycle racing this summer in Leavenworth. Kids should already be training or at least be getting their bikes in great shape for outdoor riding. As a kid, I rode all year long in New Jersey, even with snow and ice on the ground because I delivered newspapers.
