Concerned teachers and employees warned administrators at a Virginia elementary school three times that a 6-year-old boy had a gun and was threatening other students in the hours before he shot and wounded a teacher, “but the administration could not be bothered,” a lawyer for the teacher said Wednesday.

Pioneers fall short at Piper

County Commission business moves ahead in new year

The calendar has turned over again and here we are faced with a new year. Now that 2023 has arrived, the business of Leavenworth County government moves ahead. The Leavenworth County Commission has reconvened and reorganized with the addition of a new Chairwoman Commissioner Vicky Kaaz from Leavenworth. Kaaz was elected unanimously and becomes the first woman in the history of the county to serve as Commission chair.

United Way to select partner service organizations

The United Way of Leavenworth County is accepting applications from community service organizations to become member agencies. Each year, United Way’s Board of Directors makes decisions regarding which agencies and projects to support in the upcoming campaign year, according to a news release.
