Lawyer: Admins were warned 3 times the day boy shot teacher
Concerned teachers and employees warned administrators at a Virginia elementary school three times that a 6-year-old boy had a gun and was threatening other students in the hours before he shot and wounded a teacher, “but the administration could not be bothered,” a lawyer for the teacher said Wednesday.

Pioneers fall short at Piper
KANSAS CITY – A monster third quarter by Jeremiah Lewis got Leavenworth (4-7) the lead. But when Lewis fouled out with 5:03 remaining in the game, the Pioneers couldn’t keep up, falling 68-58 Tuesday night at Piper (10-3).
County Commission business moves ahead in new year
The calendar has turned over again and here we are faced with a new year. Now that 2023 has arrived, the business of Leavenworth County government moves ahead. The Leavenworth County Commission has reconvened and reorganized with the addition of a new Chairwoman Commissioner Vicky Kaaz from Leavenworth. Kaaz was elected unanimously and becomes the first woman in the history of the county to serve as Commission chair.
Scouts to conduct ‘anti-campout’ at Lansing Activity Center
A Lansing Boy Scout troop will be conducting an “anti- campout” next month in the Lansing Activity Center. Council members voted 5-0 to approve the request made by Matthew Blome with Lansing Boy Scout Troop 165 to use the center from 3 p.m.
City approves license plate reader cameras for 5 intersections
When they met this week, Leavenworth city commissioners approved the placement of license plate reader cameras at five intersections in the city. The cameras were requested by the Leavenworth Police Department.
United Way to select partner service organizations
The United Way of Leavenworth County is accepting applications from community service organizations to become member agencies. Each year, United Way’s Board of Directors makes decisions regarding which agencies and projects to support in the upcoming campaign year, according to a news release.
