Mildred E. Fleenor

Mildred E. Fleenor passed away January 16, 2023 at the age of 94. Mildred Elaine Bumann was the third child of eleven children born to Raymond and Edna (Hamann) Bumann in Battle Creek, Iowa on October 3, 1928. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1946. When her husband transferred to Lansing, Kansas with Farmland Industries in 1972 she worked at the J.C. Penney Company in Leavenworth. In 1975 they returned to Ida Grove, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband James Fleenor. She is survived by her children Mason (Diane) Fleenor, Ida Grove, Ia, Joanne (Steve) Spurgin, Denton, Tx, Kathy (Ellis) Edmonds, Leavenworth, KS, Jeff (Sharyl) Fleenor, Pella, Ia. and thirteen grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, January 27 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Ia. Arrangements were made at ChristiansenVan Houten Funeral Services.

ROBERT ARTHUR KERR

Longtime Command Information Officer and Fort Leavenworth Lamp Editor Robert (Bob) Kerr passed away January 23, 2023, following a short but fierce battle with cancer - although no doctor has ruled out the frustrating end of the Green Bay Packer season as an unofficial contributing factor. Bob was born to the late Donald and Zilpha (Grahn) Kerr October 6, 1959, in Oshkosh, Wis.

MARY ELIZABETH DUBBERLEY (BETH)

Mary Elizabeth Dubberley (Beth), 76, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away January 18, 2023, at ANEW Healthcare in Easton, Kansas. She was an only child born October 2, 1946, in Colquitt, Georgia to Toby and Dot (Clenney)

License plate symbol is offensive

To the editor: Leaving my dentist office recently, I was following a black Tesla sporting the “new” Gadsden flag license plate issued by the state of Kansas. My first thought was “that’s an oxymoron,” but then I thought I should focus on how on earth is this acceptable.
