To the editor: Leaving my dentist office recently, I was following a black Tesla sporting the “new” Gadsden flag license plate issued by the state of Kansas. My first thought was “that’s an oxymoron,” but then I thought I should focus on how on earth is this acceptable.

Irene Frey of Sugar Hill, Ga., passed away January 20, 2023, at the age of 93. Irene was born March 23, 1929, to the late Ralph and Otillia Heintzelman. She will be remembered for her love as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Frey; and daughter Carol Sturdivant - spouse, Joel Sturdivant of Snellville, Ga. Irene was married for 68 years and during those years moved from Leavenworth, Kan., to Atlanta, Ga., to Marion Ill., to Texarkana, Texas and back to Atlanta. She loved to garden, cook, sewed, love and was a prayer warrior. She is survived by her remaining children and their spouses: Fred (Debra) Frey of Cumming, Ga.; Patrick (Joan) Frey of Buford, Ga.; Kathy (John) St. John of Sugar Hill, Ga.; and Debbie (Bryan) Benfield of Gainesville, Ga. In addition to her children, Irene is survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren.

If you have not yet visited the new location for the Council on Aging, you should. It is in the former Cushing Hospital and the best entrance is to go to the old helicopter landing area around what used to be the back of the building. The COA entrance is well marked.
The Basehor community showed up in a big way to help support 2-year-old Palmer Swafford. Basehor VFW Post 11499 hosted a pancake breakfast recently with all of the proceeds going to Palmer’s family to help defray the extraordinary costs of treatments which are not covered by insurance.

A fire at a Leavenworth building that houses a church and day care center remains under investigation, a Fire Department official said. The fire was reported at about 7 p.m.
To the editor: I am concerned. One of the concerns that I have is the cavalier manner that our elected leadership displays when handling classified material.
