Nicholas L. Schmidt, Sr.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce on January 14, 2023, our dear father Nicholas L. Schmidt, Sr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side.He has been cremated and a memorial service will be held in the spring when all family can attend. Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel. A full obituary will be published in the Spring to announce the Memorial Service.

Leona Ann Budke, 86, of Leavenworth died Saturday, January 14, 2023, at home. Visitation beginning with praying of the rosary will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with Fr. Glenn Snow, O. Carm., as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. According to some commentary that I have heard recently, the revolution and destruction of American democracy did not end with the Jan. 6 attempt to overthrow the federal government. It is continuing today, and it is being led by the nihilists within the Republican Party who are in the House of Representatives.

Wrestling program continues to grow in Basehor

What started as a group of just 15 boy wrestlers has exploded into more than 200 boys and girls being part of the Bobcat Youth Wrestling Club. Originally formed in 2011 by James Gallet, who saw the need for a wrestling club in Basehor, the organization added the LadyCat girls team during the 202122 season. The LadyCats are coached by Jay Johnston and JC Christenson.
