End the Kansas food tax immediately

The past few years have been a time when many families all over America have had trouble putting food on the table. When the pandemic began in March 2020 lots of people got laid off, and hence had trouble getting the food that they needed. The pandemic eased in 2022, but in the past two years we have had the worst cycle of inflation since the early 1980s. This inflation has hit particularly hard on food prices. And, with the Federal Reserve Board raising interest rates to stem inflation, the country appears to be sinking into a recession, which will result in more unemployment.

Police continue to investigate shooting on MLK Drive

Authorities have not identified a suspect in their investigation of a shooting that occurred last week at a Leavenworth apartment complex, a police spokesman said. The victim, who was shot in his right arm and right shin, survived the incident, which was reported early Thursday morning on Martin Luther King Drive.

Council implements compensation study

Lansing City Council members voted 6-0 recently to implement the compensation study proposed by McGrath Human Resources Group. Victoria McGrath, CEO of the company, joined the meeting by Zoom to explain aspects of the study, which has been under way for months.
