I’m not sure what to think about the low water levels on the Missouri River and the Kansas River that we are experiencing. One answer is to just believe that this is a normal fluctuation in the river levels and that it will surely correct itself when we get a large snowpack in the mountains or significant rains in the region.
Not long after Thanksgiving, orders for Christmas goodies began pouring into LynnMark Mercantile, Basehor’s premiere bakery, general store and event space. Nearly 100 early orders have already been received for everything from festive cookies trays and decorated cakes to mouthwatering pies and sweet dessert bars, and LynnMark owner Tammy Rousselo expects more to come in as Christmas nears.

Dear Amy: I live in a country that celebrates a tradition that I am, at best, uneasy with. It involves a bizarre ritual by which parents of small children routinely lie to them about the existence of an elderly domestic intruder who supposedly brings small chocolate statues of himself along with toys and gifts once a year (spoiler alert: the parents buy this stuff).
