Keeping up a holiday tradition, Basehor’s Holy-Field Winery recently held an old-fashioned cookie sale to benefit the KU Cancer Center in honor of the very first tasting room hostess, Shirley Meyer, the mother of current Holy-Field co-owner Michelle Meyer and wife of co-owner Les Meyer.

County updates cost for dust control program

When they met this week, Leavenworth County commissioners approved an increase to the cost of a road dust control program. Under the program, property owners may request to have sections of gravel roads adjacent to their properties paved by the county.

The deputy police chief says the Leavenworth Police Department has seen a recent increase in the number of cars being reported stolen in the city. “It’s a little higher than normal,” Dan Nicodemus said.

To the editor: To say that Leavenworth city residents were blindsided by Camalla Leonhard’s nominating Edd Hingula instead of Jermaine Wilson for mayor at the Nov. 13 Leavenworth City Commission is an understatement. The only times in Leavenworth’s history that the mayor pro-tem was not elected mayor was due to health issues or illegal activities.
