Before the pandemic, Cheryl Woodard used to take her daughter and her friends to eat at a local IHOP in Laurel, Maryland after their dance practice. But now they hardly go there anymore because it closes too early.
Downtown candle shop is a ‘destination’
Candle Queen Candles, located at 500 Shawnee St. in downtown Leavenworth, carries candles, soap, clothing and other unique gifts. The building also includes a bed and breakfast located upstairs from the shop. The destination was part of the recent 30th annual Leavenworth Vintage Homes Tour.
Proctor toots his own horn to confuse people
To the editor: On Dec. 9, the Times published a picture of Rep. Proctor with the heading “Chairman Elected” of the “Homeland Security Task Force of the American Legislative Exchange Council.” A closer look at the byline shows that it was Proctor himself that submitted the photo of himself in a meeting. Talk about tooting your own horn.

Musk’s Twitter disbands its Trust and Safety advisory group Elon Musk’s Twitter has dissolved its Trust and Safety Council, the advisory group of around 100 independent civil, human rights and other organizations that the company formed in 2016 to address hate speech, child exploitation, suicide, self-harm and other problems on the platform. The council had been scheduled to meet with Twitter representatives Monday night.

Beginning just after Thanksgiving, Sandy and Ray Arneson begin transforming their front and backyards into a Christmas wonderland of lights and magical holiday images. Since they moved to Basehor seven years ago, their displays have grown every year and the couple never stops planning, creating or buying additional items for the next year.
