NATO member Poland and the head of the military alliance both said Wednesday a missile strike in Polish farmland that killed two people did not appear to be an intentional attack, and that air defenses in neighboring Ukraine likely launched the Soviet-era projectile against a Russian bombardment that savaged the Ukrainian power grid.

Royals considering several sites for new stadium, owner says

The Kansas City Royals have selected several potential sites to build a replacement for aging Kauffman Stadium, owner John Sherman said. In a letter to fans posted on social media, Sherman said the sites are in or near downtown Kansas City, but he did not elaborate.

Larry James Monroe

Larry James Monroe, 84, of Oskaloosa, Kan. died at the FW Huston Senior living center in Winchester November 14, 2022. He was born August 22, 1938, in Benton Harbor, Mich., the son of Theodore G. and Maude V. Debutts Monroe. The middle child of five boys. In Michigan, him along with his brothers all helped with apple harvesting and other garden harvest. In Kansas, Larry worked as a farm hand for different farmers in the area and later as a maintenance man for Lake Wood Hills and Lakeside Village, retiring in 2003. Larry loved to tinker in his workshop, working on small engines and he also collected aluminum cans. He volunteered with the Jefferson County Service Organization with distribution of commodity’s programs. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Jack (Jackie) B Monroe Jr. 2018, and one brother Jack B Monroe Sr. 2021. Survivors are his brothers Dwane O Monroe (JoAnn) of Leavenworth, Bob L Monroe and Charles T Monroe of Oskaloosa; nieces and nephews, Jacqueline Schwinn (Johnny), Jeffrey Monroe (Dawn), Timothy Monroe (Liz), Brenda Schwinn (Billy), Angela Sparks (Kenny), Judy Quinn, Georgia Monroe, James Monroe(Jeanne), Christina Lux (Josh) and many more great and great-great nieces and nephews. Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 22; visitation will be one hour prior to the service 1 to 2 p.m. at Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to the Friends of Jefferson County Hospice or to Pleasant View Cemetery Association and sent in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, PO Box 602, Oskaloosa, KS 66066.

Gary James Wiseman, 78, of San Diego, Calif., passed away on September 27, 2022, in La Jolla, Calif. Gary was born on September 24, 1944, to Floyd J and Ruby Rogers Wiseman, of Leavenworth, Kan.
