The United Kansas Conference Offensive and Defensive Football Players of the Year both came from Leavenworth County. Leavenworth quarterback Eddie McLaughlin was voted the Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 1,365 yards and 14 touchdowns and passing for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns.

On November 7, 2022, Suzuyo “Suzy” Wenger (née Hongo), devoted wife and beloved mother, peacefully passed away at the age of 96. Suzy was born on March 31, 1926, in Sendai, Japan, to her parents Kokichi and Nobu Hongo.
