To help prepare Basehor-Linwood High School students for the future, USD 458 developed the Innovation Academy at the school three years ago. Created as a cross-curricular program that connects students to real world learning in 25 different courses, Innovation Academy incorporates project management and essential skill building to help make students marketable in the current job market, regardless of which industry or career they pursue after graduation.
The annual Association of Lincoln Presenters (ALP) Conference was held in Leavenworth last past week. The mission of the organization is to preserve the legacy of Abraham and Mary Lincoln, to honor their words and works and walk in their footsteps. Having been postponed twice, the conference finally took place in Leavenworth, where Abraham Lincoln spent five days on his trip to Kansas in 1859. The annual Folk Alliance International conference has returned from a two-year hiatus that was driven by the pandemic. This is good news for music lovers and especially for those of us who live so close to Kansas City and can commute. This year’s conference will be May 18-22 and is being held at the Crown Center and the Sheraton Hotel again to give it plenty of room.

Billy (Bill) Rodell Coppinger, 67, passed away April 22, 2022, at home with his family by his side. Bill was born September 10, 1954, the only child of George “Lolly” and Wilma (Conner) Coppinger. In 1972 Bill graduated from Jefferson County North High School. He then traveled around the south working with multiple construction companies on various projects. On June 3, 1978, his greatest adventure began when he married Sheryl Domann at Corpus Christi Church, Mooney Creek. Bill worked in the construction trade all his life. He and Sheryl owned and operated B.R. Coppinger Construction, LTD for 40 years building homes and developing subdivisions in Leavenworth, Platte, and Douglas counties. Together they built a thriving business teaching their children the trade along the way.
