Bobcats win in extra innings

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Leavenworth senior Devon Bruning hit a rocket over the left field fence to send the game into extra innings. But a hit by pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth turned out to be the difference as Basehor-Linwood (4-4) escaped Leavenworth (3-4) with a 7-6 win Tuesday night.

BACK, BACK, GONE!

Another Basehor-Linwood softball game turned into a home run derby. Taking advantage of 25 mph winds, the Bobcats hit six balls over the Pioneer Softball Complex fence to sweep Leavenworth 22-0, 16-0 Tuesday.

CLEAN-UP VOLUNTEERS

Several members of the Rotary Club of Leavenworth participated in the recent Leavenworth Citywide Clean-Up. They covered 20th Street Trafficway from Spruce Street to Tonganoxie Road.

A moment that should make all Americans proud

One of the most gracious concession speeches ever given was that delivered by John McCain after the 2008 election. After congratulating President-elect Obama on his victory, he said that regardless of how people had voted, all Americans should be proud that we as a nation have come far enough for a Black man to be elected president.

RECORD TURNOUT

Basehor-Linwood coach Scott Russell got a nice surprise at the first day of the track practice – the largest turnout in the school’s history. The Bobcats are starting the season with 132 athletes.
