Thomas L. (Tom) Schmitt

Thomas L. (Tom) Schmitt, 90, died February 17, 2022 He was born February 15, 1932, to A. L. and Rosetta Spencer Schmitt at DePauw, Indiana, the fourth of six children; his parents, two sisters and three brothers predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Schmitt, his daughter, Alyson R. Jones, son-inlaw, Adam Jones, granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth of North Kansas City, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.

PARADE GRAND MARSHAL

Frank Carroll, center, has been named the grand marshal for the upcoming 39th annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Leavenworth. Carroll was presented balloons by members of the Parade Committee. Members of Knights of Columbus, Immaculata Council No. 900, were there to cheer him on. The Carroll family arrived in Leavenworth in the 1850s, immigrating from County Monaghan, Ireland. Frank Carroll is a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church parish, where his family has been members for many years. He is a semi-retired accountant. To the editor: I have read in the Leavenworth Times about the Leavenworth City Commission always professing that bringing back the downtown business area is important. I have to laugh at this because of what occurs regularly in our downtown.

Dr. Dewey Frederick Gillett

Dr. Dewey Frederick Gillett, longtime Leavenworth, Kan. veterinarian, died Feb. 7, 2022, from complications following surgery for a fractured hip. He was born June 4, 1934, in Harrison Township, Jewell County, Kan., near Burr Oak, to Elton I. and Jessie Mae (Korb) Gillett.
