In an earlier article, I noted that, in an effort to defeat Democratic incumbent Sharice Davids in the 3rd U.S. House seat in Kansas, the Kansas Legislature had taken some strongly Democratic precincts out of her district and moved them to the 2nd House District, and had also added some heavily Republican precincts to her district. During the first World War, Ralph Lindsey, my great-grandfather, kept a journal of his service on the front. He wrote about the front, his travels, his wounds, but the thing that came up most often – the mail. Fast forward 100 years. Even in the digital age there is something uniquely personal about a written letter. It creates a connection that digital communications simply cannot match. Anyone who has served in the military knows – no mail equals low morale.

Dannie Beach Donald

Dannie Beach Donald 65 of Leavenworth Ks. passed away at his home in Atchison Ks on Feb 11th 2022. He was surrounded by family. His is survived by his mother Fayetta Dennison, sister Jacque McCarter, wife Beth Donald, daughter Holly Fargo, daughter Jessica Donald, son Nathan Donald, and six grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Beach (Rusty) Donald, and brother Richard Donald. Services will be held Saturday Feb 19th, 2022 at Rock of Ages Chapel located at 1017 Randolph St Leavenworth Ks 66048.

Children learn about manners at annual tea party

Princes and princesses were the guests of honor recently at the Basehor Community Library at the annual tea party, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. After taking a year off last year due to the pandemic, the library once again hosted children and their parents to enjoy a tea party, play games and learn about manners.
