A crack in my invincibility

From what I understand, one characteristic of young people that has held firm throughout generations is believing they are invincible. There is something freeing about the concept that youth signifies power in the body and mind, and that because our whole lives are ahead of us, the present situation can never possibly reach the worst-case scenario. This complete rejection of risk is necessary to face an increasingly scary world, and it is this spirited naivety that often leads young people to make ill-advised choices.

Here’s why mask mandates are falling across the US

As the omicron wave of the coronavirus subsides, several U.S. states including Nevada, New York and Illinois ended mask mandates this week for indoor settings, while others lifted requirements at schools. The White House says talks are underway about how and when to move the country out of the emergency phase of the pandemic, but in the meantime people are advised to keep following guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommending mask use in indoor settings in places with high transmission rates.

Republicans went too far to get their maps

Kansas legislators have succeeded in overriding Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto of the congressional redistricting effort. That fulfilled Kansas Senate President Susan Wagle’s promise of maps that would benefit Republican candidates.
