Anti-vax, pro-ivermectin bills advance in Kansas

TOPEKA, Kan. – Fellow Republican conservatives rallied Tuesday behind a Kansas physician-legislator who’s under investigation by the state medical board, advancing his measures to protect doctors pursuing potentially dangerous treatments for COVID-19 and to weaken childhood vaccination requirements.

Hospital names new EMS liaison

Courtney Simanowitz has been named the new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) liaison for Saint John Hospital and Providence Medical Center. Simanowitz will serve as a liaison between the hospitals and area EMS providers.

Bank announces two promotions

Rick Schneider, market president of Exchange Bank & Trust in Leavenworth, has announced the promotions of Trisha Reif as mortgage loan originator and Zachary Jackson as consumer loan officer. Reif joined the Exchange Bank in 2017 serving as a credit analyst.

Autopsy confirms allergic reaction to vaccine

Jeanie Evans died of “anaphylaxis due to COVID-19 vaccination,” according to her autopsy report. The Effingham resident died March 24, 2021, a day after the Moderna vaccine was administered to her in Jefferson County.

Utility can recoup costs

A year after Winter Storm Uri slammed Kansas, regulators approved a plan for the state’s largest natural gas provider, Kansas Gas Service, to recoup $366 million in extraordinary costs. The plan, approved by the Kansas Corporation Commission on Tuesday, will likely mean customers will pay between $5 and $7 per month extra on their gas bills for the next 5-10 years, with the exact timeframe and dollar amount still uncertain.
