VETERANS RECOGNITION: IRA HAYES
Ira Hamilton Hayes was born on Jan. 12, 1923, on the Gila River Pima Reservation, Pinal County, Arizona, the oldest of eight children born to Joseph and Nancy Whitaker Hayes.In August 1942, at the age of 19, he quit school and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
