More than a decade ago, Basehor residents Beau and Megan Himpel invited a group of their friends to participate in a friendsgiving event sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas to get together to cook delicious food and enjoy each other’s company. What started with a group of around 10 friends has now grown to more than 30 participants who join forces to provide holiday gifts for needy families.
Saint John Hospital has announced the opening of a new Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) to provide critical care for residents in Leavenworth and surrounding communities.The unit not only provides comprehensive in-person services, but also incorporates telemedicine for virtual consults, offering patients greater flexibility and timely access to specialists.“This new unit allows many patients to remain in their own community for critical care,” said Billie Leonard, chief nursing officer. “With the expansion of telemedicine, we are able to reach more people and deliver expert care where and when our patients need it the most.”Telemedicine that will be used on the new unit allows specialists to monitor patients with chronic medical conditions, ensuring timely intervention when necessary.
Members of Reaching Out From Within (ROFW) inside the Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF), with the support of the LCF Activities Department, recently conducted a fundraiser among residents inside LCF to raise money for Leavenworth Interfaith Community of Hope. Volunteer sponsors with ROFW, on behalf of the resident group members inside LCF, presented a check for $1,605.50 to Myranda Agnew, executive director of Leavenworth Interfaith Community of Hope.ROFW is a voluntary, self-help program that was developed by residents inside LCF in 1982.
