Port Authority aims to educate public about its mission

Ask the average person on the street what the Leavenworth County Port Authority is and what it does, and you may get a puzzled look.But representatives of that organization want to change this and demonstrate just how important the organization is to bringing jobs and dollars to Leavenworth County. While it was created by law in 1969 to provide guidance and direction for developing the port areas along the Missouri and Kansas rivers, its purpose has expanded to address additional economic development needs of the community.That’s why board member Greg Kaaz recently addressed the Lansing City Council – to continue what the organization is calling its educational campaign.
