Buffalo Soldier license plates now on sale

A new license plate design honoring the Buffalo Soldiers is available to order in the state of Kansas. The plate was authorized by Senate Bill 132 and signed into law in April 2023.SB 132 allows Kansans to have state-issued Buffalo Soldier license plates, which will raise money for the Richard Allen Cultural Center and Museum and a new Frontier Army Museum to be located next to Fort Leavenworth.According to former Richard Allen Cultural Center executive director Edna Wagner, the Fort Leavenworth Motorcycle Club and their former president, James “Tanker” Lee, initiated the idea for the license plate design.

Lansing City Council approves RHID plan

Lansing City Council members voted 5-3 recently to establish a Reinvestment Housing Incentive District for the Riverbend Heights housing development plan along the southwestern part of McIntyre Road.The vote came after a public hearing where many of the property owners across the road expressed complaints and concerns about the plan. Those voting no were Don Studnicka, Gene Kirby and Peter Robinson.A representative of Riverbend Heights, Chris Coulson, described the plan as 46 acres that would initially include 406 single family homes over six phases.
