Basehor schedules special election for sales tax

Members of the Basehor City Council have authorized a special election for later this year to seek voter approval of an additional 1% sales tax in the city. If the measure is approved, money collected from the additional sales tax will be used for enhancing the Basehor Police Department, improving parks and trails, and street maintenance and improvements, according to Maddie Waldeck, Basehor’s assistant city administrator and finance director.

HUMAN SERVICES & ASSISTANCE:

The mission of the Human Services and Assistance team is to provide support to seniors, age 60 and older and residing in Leavenworth County, to ensure their safety and promote their emotional well-being. This team is qualified to address a single issue or a complex situation that requires the coordination of services, including enlisting the support of our Social Services Coordinator to assist seniors, who are at risk of institutionalization, to remain living independently for as long as possible.

Thank you to all who attended our joint open house with K-State Extension on February 15th. What a great turnout! We were excited to welcome nearly 500 visitors through our doors to learn more about our programs and services and to enjoy some delicious food and fun activities. PUBLIC HEARING: A Public Hearing is set for senior adult programs. All interested community members will have the opportunity to provide input on future ongoing aging programs in Leavenworth County during the annual Public Hearing. The purpose of the hearing is to provide a forum to comment and make suggestions as to the needs of older adults, as well as to voice the effectiveness of current programs. The Public Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19th at 1:30 p.m. at the Leavenworth County Council on Aging, 711 Marshall Street, Suite 100, Leavenworth, KS. ***Anyone requiring accommodation (i.e. qualified interpreter, large print reader and hearing assistance) in order to attend this meeting is requested to notify the Council on Aging at 913-684-0777 no later than 48 hours prior to the hearing.

IN-HOME SUPPORT PROGRAM:

ERRAND & SHOPPING SUPPORT: This program supports residents who need assistance with their shopping and errand needs. These programs are feebased services for residents age 60 and older. Shopping and errand trips may be scheduled every other week. For more information, call 913-684-0777.
