Families of eighth-grade students who will be attending Leavenworth High School in the fall are invited to Becoming an LHS Pioneer – Transition Night 2023. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m.

Wire reports Man sentenced for shooting at police during Wichita protests A Wichita man who prosecutors say fired at police during racial injustice protests in 2020 has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Henry Parker, 30, was sentenced Monday on 21 counts, including aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer.
County awarded federal emergency, shelter funds
Leavenworth County has been awarded funds through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in Leavenworth County. EFSP funds are federal funds made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. Leavenworth County will receive $15,798. The funding is to be allocated and spent by April 30, 2024.

City looks at changing funding method for street maintenance
In the past, the Leavenworth city government has taken on debt for annual street maintenance projects through the issuance of temporary notes and bonds. But city officials are looking at transitioning to a payas- you-go method for these projects.
Lansing City Council discusses funds for animal shelter
The Leavenworth County Humane Society has been going through a “rough patch” financially for the past six months, the director told Lansing City Council members recently. Director Crystal Swann Blackdeer asked council members at a work session if the city would consider providing funds that would give the shelter a sustainable, longterm solution.
