Man stabbed during alleged battery
A Leavenworth man was in critical condition after he was stabbed while allegedly battering a woman, a police spokesman said. Police were called to a residence in the 400 block of Kickapoo Street at 5:51 p.m.
Transfer Station partners with business, club for plastic bag recycling
The Leavenworth County Transfer Station is partnering with a local business and civic club to offer plastic bag recycling. “We have always collected plastic bags here but we didn’t have any way to recycle them,” said Tammy Saldivar, solid waste director for the county.

Kansas prisoner who sued over cancer treatment has died A Kansas prisoner who alleged in a lawsuit that he was not being treated properly for cancer has died, his family and attorneys said. John Keith Calvin, 56, died Wednesday at El Dorado Correctional Facility, where he was imprisoned for a 2002 killing that his attorneys and supporters maintained he did not commit.
