Military veteran spurs action on honorary license plates

Since the mid-1990s, Linwood resident and retired former combat helicopter pilot Maj. Rob Oliver has worked in states neighboring Kansas where he saw military honorary award license plates made available to veterans who received various honors. Because he never felt that the military ribbon decals offered to Kansas residents appropriately honored those veterans, he took it upon himself to do something about it.

Kansas prisoner who sued over cancer treatment has died A Kansas prisoner who alleged in a lawsuit that he was not being treated properly for cancer has died, his family and attorneys said. John Keith Calvin, 56, died Wednesday at El Dorado Correctional Facility, where he was imprisoned for a 2002 killing that his attorneys and supporters maintained he did not commit.
