Historical Committee reps say prison tours have been popular

More than 1,200 visitors have toured Kansas State Penitentiary since tours restarted in March, Tom Young recently told Lansing City Council members.Young is a member of the Lansing Historical Committee that sponsors the tours of several cell houses once part of the state prison known as Kansas State Penitentiary. Young and his wife, Teresa, are some of the guides of the prison tours.“It’s taken off great,” Young said.

Pioneers earn certifications in digital media

Leavenworth High School students are now earning industry-recognized certifications in digital media, thanks to the efforts of educators Steve Short, Geila Dodin and Heather Waters. The trio secured an Innovative Teacher Grant from the Leavenworth Public Schools Education Foundation to fund curriculum and testing for Adobe Certified Professional exams.The grant supports training and certification opportunities in high-demand digital fields, including visual design, digital video, visual effects and motion graphics andgraphic design and illustration.This semester served as a pilot for the program, with educators navigating new curriculum and certification requirements.
