We go into the midterm election with animosity, discord and divisiveness. In a recent letter to the editor, the writer addressed the rhetoric of both political parties. We could go toe-to-toe on her comments, but that achieves nothing. The focus should be on the very different policies of the two major parties.

Twelve members of Basehor Velo, a group of bicycling enthusiasts in southern Leavenworth County, participated in the recent Bike MS. They joined more than 850 riders from the Kansas City metro area and helped raise more than $670,000 to help change the world for people who are suffering with multiple sclerosis. MS is unpredictable and is often a disabling disease of the central nervous system. There is currently no cure for the disease.

Authorities seized stolen vehicles as well as firearms and suspected drugs during a search of a home in southeast Leavenworth County, an official with the Sheriff’s Office said. The warrant was served by members of the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office at 8:15 a.m.

A contract could be awarded next year for a new federal prison project in Leavenworth. But it likely will be three to five years before the new facility opens, a prison official said.
