Buccaneers, Chiefs will play in Tampa as scheduled
Sunday night’s game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs will be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa as scheduled. The Bucs spent most of this week in the Miami area preparing for the highly-anticipated prime-time matchup featuring quarterbacks Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes to avoid direct contact with Hurricane Ian.
Leavenworth organizations receive grants
Two Leavenworth organizations have been awarded more than $117,000 in grants to provide services for victims of crime, according to a new release from the Kansas Attorney General’s Office. The First Judicial District CASA Association has been awarded $18,000 to assist child victims of abuse and neglect through advocacy and to provide advocacy services directed at reducing the incidence of child abuse and neglect.

Leavenworth selected as regional site for Veterans Day celebration
Leavenworth has once again been selected to serve this year as a regional site for celebrating Veterans Day, according to a news release from the governor’s office. The Veterans Day National Committee, which is part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, selected Leavenworth for the designation.

Wire reports Lawsuit says woman gave birth alone on Maryland jail floor A woman who said she was left to give birth to her baby alone on the dirty, concrete floor of her jail cell in Maryland filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday alleging that jail nurses ignored her screams and pleas for help for six hours. Jazmin Valentine alleges some nurses working for the jail’s contracted medical provider, Pennsylvania-based PrimeCare Medical, Inc., said she was withdrawing from drugs, not in labor, and some jail staffers and medical staff laughed at her, saying she was just trying to get out of her cell late at night in July 2021 at the Washington County jail in Hagerstown.
McConnell backs post-Jan. 6 revisions to elections law
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday he will “proudly support” legislation to overhaul rules for certifying presidential elections, bolstering a bipartisan effort to revise a 19th century law and avoid another Jan. 6 insurrection.
