Hurricane Ian nears Cuba on path to strike Florida as Cat 4

Hurricane Ian moved near the Cayman Islands and closer to western Cuba early Monday on a track to hit Florida as a major hurricane this week. Ian was forecast to intensify rapidly and hit Cuba as a major hurricane late Monday, and then become an even stronger Category 4 hurricane over warm Gulf of Mexico waters before striking the west central coast of Florida on Wednesday.

Wire reports DA: Topeka officers justified in man’s shooting death Three Topeka police officers who shot and killed a man this summer were justified because the man charged at them with a knife, Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay said. The officers shot Christopher Kelley, a 38-year-old Black man, on June 24 after responding to a report that a man was threatening a BNSF employee with a knife.

God puts people in front of us for a reason

This past week, God put a variety of people in front of me. I spent time with fellow pastors and chaplains. I visited a dear friend battling cancer. I witnessed an amazing wedding full of loving family and friends. I broke bread with some amazing people. I helped a family member deal with an unexpected emotional issue. I shared my struggles with people I know and love and got to stand in front of our church family and share his good news. It was a rewarding and challenging week on many levels.
