Lansing Community Library is shooting for the stars with three special events on May 1, May 2 and May 5. All events will take place at the library and are free and open to the public.

USM seniors honored at hooding ceremony
In the lead up to its May 3 commencement ceremony, the University of Saint Mary recognized the class of 2025 during a Convocation Honors and Hooding Ceremony in Annunciation Chapel.Saint Mary is one of the few universities in the U.S. continuing the time-honored tradition of hooding its undergraduates.

Annual photo contest honors late USM student
The University of Saint Mary Journalism and Communications Club (JCOM) has announced its Fifth Annual Christian Yanos Excellence in Photojournalism Contest and Awards Ceremony.Christian Yanos was a digital communications major and football player at Saint Mary when he passed away in 2018. JCOM established the contest to commemorate Yanos and the work he was unable to finish.JCOM will host an awards ceremony at 2 p.m.
Kelly calls for vaccination surge to counter measles spread
Gov. Laura Kelly said three-dozen confirmed cases of measles in southwest Kansas necessitated a plea Tuesday for children and adults to get vaccinated and for people with symptoms to avoid spreading the virus by staying away from public places.The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced March 13 the first confirmed case of measles in the state since 2008.

A Lansing school district bus was involved in what school officials referred to as a minor accident Monday.
Club distributes backpacks to foster children
Members of Beta Epsilon chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa got together earlier this year to put together backpacks for children entering foster car. Twenty-four backpacks were put together with bears, blankets, outfits, T-shirts, socks, toiletries, school supplies and books.
Vehicle crashes into tree
A woman injured her leg when her vehicle went off the road and crashed into a tree near Lansing, according to an official with the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office. The crash was reported at 12:07 a.m.
