Lansing City Council discusses grant strategy

Lansing City Council members recently learned a little more about the Mid-American Regional Council, and the opportunity also gave them a chance to vent because a neighboring community was awarded the lion’s share of recent grants funneled through that agency.Ashley Hand, MARC’s director of local government services, said she’d worked in collaboration with the agency that covers 119 cities in nine counties in the Kansas City area, but she started working there about five months ago.She said she’s particularly excited about the new housing strategy, and she thought she would be able to provide resources to Lansing, which has affordable housing as a priority. Lansing has also used the Operation Greenlight program that deals with traffic lights and safety.Other big MARC projects include the regional transportation plan and the 911 program.

Basehor creator uses coins to make unique items

Basehor resident Joshua Donovan’s talents allow him to turn everyday coins into just about anything. He calls his talent "coin art" because in addition to rings, earrings and other trinkets, he can also turn a quarter into a cowboy or pirate hat with the help of some specialized tools.About eight years ago, a friend from work was selling several old tools that belonged to his dad.
