During a Leavenworth City Commission meeting this week, one commissioner responded to comments a local state representative made concerning the city’s proposed budget for 2023. “I’m tired of all the political posturing and the attacks on our hardworking commission, city staff,” Commissioner Nancy Bauder said Tuesday.
Early voting is surging in Kansas ahead of next week’s statewide abortion vote and the electorate so far is leaning more Democratic than usual. More than 2½ times as many people had cast early ballots as of Tuesday compared to the same point in the 2018 mid-term primary, the Kansas secretary of state’s office reported.

Woman killed when plane crashes in Illinois pool is ID’d An aircraft passenger who died last weekend when a small plane crashed into a swimming pool in southern Illinois has been identified as a 56-year-old woman from the Peoria area. Centralia police said Cheryl Monserat-LaGreca of Lacon, Illinois, died on impact when the 1948 Beechcraft A35 aircraft crashed Saturday less than a mile from the Centralia Municipal Airport.
