Local student wins state title

Katelyn Burks of Leavenworth has earned the prestigious title of 2022 National American Miss Kansas at the state pageant held July 8-10. She will attend the national pageant in Orlando, Florida, during Thanksgiving week. She will have the opportunity to win her share of over $1 million in cash and prizes.

Brothers facing rape charges

Two brothers from Leavenworth are facing rape charges for allegedly having sex with a child who was under 14 years of age, according to a prosecution official and court records. Steven, 39, and Thomas, 42, Manczuk each is charged in Leavenworth County District Court with rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and sexual exploitation of a child.
