Police: Gunman fired more than 70 rounds at July 4 parade
The gunman who attacked an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago fired more than 70 rounds with an AR-15-style gun that killed at least six people, then evaded initial capture by dressing as a woman and blending into the fleeing crowd, police said Tuesday.

Fireworks blamed for house fire
Exploding fireworks started two small fires inside a Leavenworth house, a Fire Department official said. No injuries were reported.
Driver injured when vehicle overturns on turnpike
A driver was taken to the hospital after his vehicle overturned multiple times on the Kansas Turnpike in southern Leavenworth County, according to an online report from the Kansas Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 4:15 a.m.

Basehor VFW Post 11499 member George Muro recently participated in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honor military veterans who have served and sacrificed for the country by visiting war memorials in the nation’s capital via a chartered plane with other veterans. May’s flight, which took nearly 90 veterans, was the largest flight taken to date.
