The Leavenworth County Historical Society held its annual Celebrating Women of Leavenworth County fundraiser Friday at Riverfront Community Center. About 120 people attended the event.

More than 50 years ago, the United States withdrew its military forces from Vietnam. To collect and preserve memories and stories from those Vietnam veterans as well as their families, the Humanities Kansas organization has awarded grants to 11 communities, including the Basehor Historical Museum Society.Last year, volunteers at the museum began the laborious task of applying for one of the grants and were excited to find out that the museum would receive a $3,000 grant to help with purchasing the equipment needed to capture those memories from local veterans.
