The power of our words spoken in blessing and farewell

“The grace of the Lord, Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (II Corinthians 13:14) That verse from the Bible is the New Testament benediction – a complement to the “Aaronic Benediction” of the Old Testament from the Book of Numbers. The apostle Paul closed every one of his letters to his friends with some sort of blessing or benediction asking that God’s grace, peace and love be with his friends in Christ.

Charles Harrison, a 2010 graduate of Leavenworth High School, has received a doctorate in statistical computing from the University of Central Florida. Harrison is a graduate of Pittsburg State University where he earned a master’s degree in mathematics in 2014. His dissertation was titled, “Change Point Detection for Streaming Data Using Support Vector Methods.” He is currently working for Amazon. Submitted

Volunteer firefighter dies from injuries suffered in fire A volunteer firefighter who was injured while fighting a blaze in Pleasanton earlier this week has died, officials said. Joshua Haynes, 35, was injured Monday during a fire at the Carpenter Chiropractor Clinic.
