Teachers, staff honored at annual breakfast

The Basehor-Linwood Education Foundation recently held an appreciation breakfast for its benefactors as well as to honor educators and staff members who have gone above and beyond the call of duty over the past year.Sherry Reeves, Basehor-Linwood school district interim superintendent, began the presentation with an update of the recent $60 million bond issue that was passed by voters last April. Upgrades and improvements include $46 million to Basehor-Linwood High School, $9 million to the Early Education Center and $5 million in safety and security upgrade measures taken throughout USD 458.BLEF was established in 1999 and is a nonprofit charitable foundation that offers a formal, managed system to provide solutions for exceptional educational needs of the district.

Lansing City Council gets update on aquatic center

Lansing City Council members got an update recently on the aquatics center expected to open around Memorial Day 2026.Project manager Jeff Barkley of Waters Edge Aquatic Design provided a Powerpoint presentation that indicated the items completed as well as artist’s concepts of the rest. What has been completed, he said, includes the pool basin, pool piping, the water slide slab and a good part of the bath house.
