Hotel receives KPA award
The Leavenworth Local Hotel has been awarded the Kansas Preservation Alliance’s 2022 Award of Merit. The hotel is located at the site of the former Immaculata High School, which was constructed in 2022.

Kansas authorities investigating after man shot by police The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is probing the police shooting of a Junction City man over the weekend. The shooting happened late Saturday afternoon when officers were called to a Junction City home by a woman who reported that a man was outside her house waving a gun and threatening her and another woman, the agency said in a news release.
County attorney: Woman acted in self defense in shooting husband
The county attorney said a Leavenworth County woman will not be charged for fatally shooting her husband last year because she acted in self defense. County Attorney Todd Thompson announced the decision in a letter released Tuesday.
Annual Memorial Day ceremony open to public
An annual Memorial Day ceremony at the cemetery near the Leavenworth VA hospital will be open to the public this year, according to a member of the committee organizing the event. The ceremony is planned for 9 a.m.
