Scout visits with City Council to learn about local government

Declan Oswald recently took the opportunity to meet with Basehor city officials to learn more about how city government works and to take another step in earning his Eagle Scout rank. The Basehor-Linwood Middle School sixth-grader met with Basehor City Council member Vernon Fields at City Hall to work on his “Citizenship in the Community” Boy Scout merit badge. Oswald learned about amenities within the community and how the City Council and Planning Commission are responsible for getting those amenities established.

Kansas ordered to pay $63 million to former pizza magnate The state of Kansas must pay former pizza executive Gene Bicknell more than $63 million to settle a long-running dispute over his tax bill. The court ruled that Bicknell was a Florida resident in 2005 and 2006 when he sold NPC International, which owned more than 800 Pizza Hut locations around the world.
