Kansas ordered to pay $63 million to former pizza magnate The state of Kansas must pay former pizza executive Gene Bicknell more than $63 million to settle a long-running dispute over his tax bill. The court ruled that Bicknell was a Florida resident in 2005 and 2006 when he sold NPC International, which owned more than 800 Pizza Hut locations around the world.
Lansing City Council members took steps Thursday to fund improvements at Bernard Park and approved a pay and benefits study for employees. Thursday’s meeting was busy as council members also acted on a Town Centre sewer extension and a traffic signal for K-7 and Mary Street.

Kansas police: Road rage led to fatal parking lot shootout A prolonged road rage incident involving two vehicles led to a shootout in a Lawrence grocery store parking lot that killed two men, police there said. The incident happened Tuesday night when the driver of a sport utility vehicle and the occupants of a pickup truck interacted and argued over the truck’s loud tailpipe.
