Kansas ordered to pay $63 million to former pizza magnate The state of Kansas must pay former pizza executive Gene Bicknell more than $63 million to settle a long-running dispute over his tax bill. The court ruled that Bicknell was a Florida resident in 2005 and 2006 when he sold NPC International, which owned more than 800 Pizza Hut locations around the world.

Fallen military, first responders to be honored at annual relay

Carry The Load, a nonprofit that provides ways to connect Americans to the sacrifices of the nation’s military, veterans, first responders and their families, recently kicked off its 10th Annual National Relay to raise awareness for the true meaning of Memorial Day. The 32-day, 20,000-mile relay includes five routes crossing 48 states and 100 rallies before culminating at the Dallas Memorial March on Memorial Day weekend.

Kansas police: Road rage led to fatal parking lot shootout A prolonged road rage incident involving two vehicles led to a shootout in a Lawrence grocery store parking lot that killed two men, police there said. The incident happened Tuesday night when the driver of a sport utility vehicle and the occupants of a pickup truck interacted and argued over the truck’s loud tailpipe.
