Students perform classic play on stage

The very first performance at the Basehor Middle School’s Performing Arts Center took place recently with a production of “Charlotte’s Web.” Sara Homan, BLMS reading and theater teacher, started the school’s drama club several years ago and it quickly became so popular that she was able to convince the administration to offer a theater class at the school. When a school bond was passed that included the Performing Arts Center, things fell into place for a location for the school’s band, orchestra, choir and theater groups to use the theater on a daily basis.

Health screenings coming to Basehor

Residents living in and around Basehor can learn about their risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and other chronic, serious conditions with screenings by Life Line Screening. First Baptist Church will host the community event May 24. The church is located at 1410 N. 155th St. in Basehor.

Man convicted 19 years after woman’s rape near Topeka Nineteen years after a woman was raped near Topeka, a man has been convicted of the crime after authorities determined his DNA linked him to the crime. Pernell Adam Mack Jr., was convicted Wednesday of rape, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and aggravated criminal sodomy, District Attorney Mike Kagay said in a news release.
