Officers make extra effort to deliver groceries

Basehor resident Lea King has been using the shopping service Instacart since the pandemic began to have groceries delivered to her elderly parents as well as herself. Because it was convenient for someone else to do the shopping for her and deliver the groceries to her home, King put in an order and was expecting her groceries to be delivered around 8:30 p.m. March 21. She had placed her order that afternoon and was thankful that she didn’t have to get out in the rainy, spring evening.

ROADRUNNERS HONORED

At the recent Friends in Service of Heroes (FISH) Armed Forces Day celebration in New Century, Kansas, Rep. Pat Proctor, right, presented a commendation on behalf of the Kansas Statehouse to the survivors of the Roadrunners squad, which served with the Golden Dragon Battalion (1st Battalion, 14th Infantry) in Pleiku, An Khe and Cambodia from 1968 to 1970. Roadrunners present were SPC5 Dennis Summerfield, SSG Rhea Rakes, SPC Dean Smith and CSM Larry Joe Powell. Proctor served with the Golden Dragons as an Army captain from 1999 to 2000. Rep. Sights and sounds while on a walk at the riverfront

With the advent of spring weather, I have resumed walks along Leavenworth’s riverfront. Some days the Missouri River flows below its gauge zero datum. Other days it reaches two or three feet above it. Every additional foot of water depth increases the flow by about 4,300 cubic feet per second. Gauge zero datum represents the agreed upon height above sea level that allows river depth to be compared from day to day and year to year.

Kansas looks to use taxes on sports bets to attract Chiefs Kansas legislators were close to approving a measure authorizing sports betting that would dedicate most of the state’s revenues from it to efforts to lure the Kansas City Chiefs from Missouri to the Kansas side of the metropolitan area. Lawmakers expected to give final approval this week to a bill allowing people in the state to use cell phone or computer apps to bet on sporting events and to place bets at state-owned casinos or up to 50 other locations chosen by each casino.
