Kansas looks to use taxes on sports bets to attract Chiefs Kansas legislators were close to approving a measure authorizing sports betting that would dedicate most of the state’s revenues from it to efforts to lure the Kansas City Chiefs from Missouri to the Kansas side of the metropolitan area. Lawmakers expected to give final approval this week to a bill allowing people in the state to use cell phone or computer apps to bet on sporting events and to place bets at state-owned casinos or up to 50 other locations chosen by each casino.

The scooters are available for use as part of a shared electric scooter program that has been launched in the city of Leavenworth. After a 17-year absence and just six weeks of rehearsal, a handbell choir returned to play during the combined congregation Easter service April 17 at Pioneer Chapel on Fort Leavenworth. Handbell choir director Kathy Kem, Religious Services Organization Protestant parish coordinator, said the handbells were purchased in 1964, a year before Pioneer Chapel was completed.

Leavenworth library suspends Sunday operations

Beginning this weekend, the Leavenworth Public Library will be closed on Sundays for the next three months. The library will continue to operate during normal hours for the other days of the week.
