In its first year as a fundraiser, the Basehor-Linwood football team sold nearly 1,000 bags of mulch to local citizens to help neighborhood yards get ready for spring. With more than 100 players, the team’s expenses mount up quickly and coach Rod Stallbaumer was looking for ways to help offset expenses. After seeing other communities use bagged mulch to raise funds, plans were put into action to offer mulch to the Basehor community.

KNIGHTS COMMENDATION

Russell Craft, Lansing Knights of Columbus Council 10834 grand knight, recently presented the Supreme Knight Certificate of Commendation to Robert Martz. The certificate recognizes Martz’s 65 years of service to the Knights of Columbus. St. Francis de Sales parish hall is named “Robert Martz Hall” in recognition of his selfless contribution to the parish and community. Martz is a lifelong Lansing resident and currently resides at Twin Oaks Assisted Living. Jim Cunningham

Wichita man who repeatedly attacked woman sentenced A Wichita man has been sentenced to 19 years and four months in prison for repeatedly attacking a woman in his home, Sedgwick County authorities said. Will Johnson, 35, was sentenced after pleading guilty in February to 22 counts involving four cases alleging abuse of the woman in 2019.
