Affidavit details shooting of 3 people at Kansas school

A police affidavit says a student at a Kansas high school began shooting after an administrator and school resource officer demanded to search his backpack because of rumors the student had a gun. The student, 18-year-old Jaylon Desean Elmore, fired five shots toward the school resource officer at Olathe East High School on March 4 before he was shot by the officer and subdued by the assistant principal, according to the affidavit.

Some GOP states seek new police units for election probes

Republicans responding to the myth of widespread voter fraud are turning to a new tactic to appease voters who believe the claims: election police. The efforts to establish law enforcement units dedicated to investigating election crimes come as Republican lawmakers and governors move to satisfy the millions of voters in their party who believe former President Donald Trump’s false claims that widespread voter fraud cost him reelection in 2020.

Basehor school introduces bucket drumming into classrooms

Basehor’s Gray Hawk Elementary School music teacher Madi Penfield recently asked citizens in the community to donate five-gallon plastic buckets to be used by students for drumming. Originally hoping for 30 buckets so that each student in a class could have one, a secondary goal was to collect an additional 30 buckets so each classroom in the school could have a bucket to use for emotional regulation throughout the day as needed. In the end, 70 buckets were received which will allow some buckets to be held in reserve as they are worn out over the years.
