Top Kansas school administrator suspended over offensive remark
Kansas’ top public school administrator was suspended on Friday after attempting to step down over an offensive remark about Native Americans at a recent public conference. Education Commissioner Randy Watson’s resignation was announced Friday by Jim Porter, the chairman of the State Board of Education.

Man sentenced in fatal hit-and-run in Leavenworth
A Leavenworth man has been sentenced to 3.5 years in jail for a fatal hit-and-run on March 1, 2020. Justen Michael McCarter, 37, was sentenced Thursday in the death of 44-year-old Adam Wheeler, who was struck by a motorcycle as he crossed a Leavenworth street.
Sean Penn in Ukraine to continue work on documentary
Filmmaker and actor Sean Penn is in Ukraine to continue work on a documentary about the ongoing Russian assault. The Office of the President wrote in a Facebook post Thursday that Penn attended press briefings, met with Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk and spoke to journalists and military personnel about the Russian invasion.
