The history of Basehor

Joyce Bowlin has deep ties to the Basehor community. Her grandparents set up a homestead just south of Basehor in 1912 after moving to the area from Independence, Iowa. Bowlin grew up just west of Basehor and moved to town after she got married. Her three sons made the third generation of her family who graduated from Basehor High School.

China president rejects ‘Cold War mentality’

Xi’s opening speech at forum touts cooperation GENEVA – Chinese President Xi Jinping called Monday for greater world cooperation against COVID-19 and said China would send an additional 1 billion doses of vaccine to other countries, while urging other powers to discard a “Cold War mentality” at a time of rising geopolitical tensions – a veiled swipe at the United States. The Chinese leader touted his country’s efforts to share vaccines, fight climate change and promote development at home and abroad as he delivered the opening speech of a virtual gathering hosted by the World Economic Forum.

The danger of devastating grass fires

Very recently, a devastating grass fire destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses in Boulder County in Colorado. That was probably a rude awakening for those tens of thousands of folks who thought that living in the mountains in Colorado was a good idea. This was not even a forest fire, it was just a grass fire that was pushed by 100 mph winds through the suburbs.

Two large Kansas school districts shuttered as COVID surges OLATHE – Two large school districts in Kansas have canceled classes this week as COVID-19 cases surge among their staff and students. Olathe Public Schools and Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools canceled classes for Tuesday and Wednesday, the Kansas City Star reported.
